Celebrations commemorating the anniversary of the April Uprising

On the 1st of May every year in the town of  Klissura, celebrations commemorating the burst of the April Uprising are organized. The programme consists of a solemn concert - reveille (concert with fireworks), a “live picture” representing the battle at the “Evil Glen” and many exhibitions.

The day of potatoes

This local holiday is a tradition in Klissura not only because growing potatoes is people’s main means of living here, but also because they are one of the most delicious in the country. The museum of potatoes in Klissura is the only one of its kind in Bulgaria and on the Balkan Peninsula. The idea for creating the Museum was given by Ivan Shabanov, a lawyer who was a real friend of Klissura. In 1986, in the Chervenakovata house a unique museum collection was gathered, where the greatest attractions were the amazing big-sized potatoes. On the day of the celebration a lot of competitions are organized: the most beautiful and imaginative potato dish, the best literary work, “The Gold Potato” contest for contribution to the unique holiday, and many others.
